England Looses ODI Ranking

MUMBAI: After the 2-0 defeat against India, England looses its fourth place in the ICC ODI ranking. The rankings are lead by Australia, Srilanka and South Africa. India could easily maintain the point ranking if they are to win another game.

The Indian tour of England had caused India to loose its fourth post in the ranking table and drop back to fifth but the recent series has helped them to leapfrog over England to the fourth post. If India does really well and win the series 5-0 and if South Africa are to loose the first two matches against Australia, then India could also secure the third place and be just one point behind Srilanka who are bit on low performance at the moment.

The drawback is that if England are to win the remaining matches in a row then the ranking could easily be lost.

Kohli can match Sachin's record - Jonty Rhodes

MUMBAI: Following the outstanding knock at the second ODI between England and India, Virat Kohli has been showered with compliments from both team mates and from around the world. The most prominent comment has been from South African cricket player Jonty Rhodes, who thinks that Virat has the ability and caliber that can match the iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

"Kohli is only 22 but he has already shown his potential with the bat. He has shown that he can be a superstar," Rhodes told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of his new range of nutritional supplements under ESN (Evolution Sports Nutrition)."His conversion rate from fifties to hundreds in ODIs is amazing. Once he gets a fifty, he is a difficult batsman to dismiss. With regards to the stats and the number of runs scored, he has shown that he can compete with the records of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar in the long run.

"Kohli is expected to play a big role in India's success in the future. He is a fine cricketer and a fine athlete. He is a complete all-rounder," he added.

Kohli has scored 2,496 runs in 66 ODIs at an average of 45.38 with the help of seven centuries and 16 fifties.

I was more suprised than being hurt - Harbhajan Singh

NEW DELHI: After being dropped from the ODI team against England's tour of India, the first reactions came up from the ace spinner for India, Harbhajan Singh. He said that he was more surprised than being hurt by the decision. He was talking to the media here and said :

"I wouldn't say that I was hurt, but I was more surprised. I wish all the younger players all the best for the tour and I am more than happy to share my experience with them like I was helped by Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly while I was coming up," Harbhajan said on Wednesday.

Dropped due to the lackluster performance at the England tour, the cricketer shared the emotion and said that he will like the young team to take revenge on the England team after the clean series sweep by the England team at their home-ground.

I encouraged Dravid - Ricky Ponting

Melbourne: Former caption to the Australian cricket team claims that he had persuaded the veteran cricketer Rahul Dravid from the thoughts of retirement from the test series. The bad form for the cricketer through last year was badly received by the board and media and had almost written off Dravid from the team. Ricky Ponting claims to have met Dravid during the last day of the series and have asked him not to retire. " I remember after our last series in India there were more speculations to the fact that Rahul Dravid was finished" the skipper recalls. "I had talked to him at the end of the series and told him 'Dont even think of retirement, because I just saw few sparks through your innings which does mention that the current phase will pass"

Rahul Dravid was much acclaimed for his accomplishments in the recent tour of England, where the team India had a clean washout of 0-4 series. The 'wall' as Dravid is popularly known had scored 461 runs in the series and this included three centuries to his bag. Where other players failed to show a consistent form it was the one positive that team India could carry back after the series defeat.

Ponting also added that ""I just said 'don't let them wear you down, don't let them get you down'. I received a similar text message before and after the Ashes from him as well," he added.

The 36 year old cricketer has not scored a century from January of last year and he hopes to regain touch in near future and finds his inspiration from Rahul Dravid
