England Looses ODI Ranking

MUMBAI: After the 2-0 defeat against India, England looses its fourth place in the ICC ODI ranking. The rankings are lead by Australia, Srilanka and South Africa. India could easily maintain the point ranking if they are to win another game.

The Indian tour of England had caused India to loose its fourth post in the ranking table and drop back to fifth but the recent series has helped them to leapfrog over England to the fourth post. If India does really well and win the series 5-0 and if South Africa are to loose the first two matches against Australia, then India could also secure the third place and be just one point behind Srilanka who are bit on low performance at the moment.

The drawback is that if England are to win the remaining matches in a row then the ranking could easily be lost.

Kohli can match Sachin's record - Jonty Rhodes

MUMBAI: Following the outstanding knock at the second ODI between England and India, Virat Kohli has been showered with compliments from both team mates and from around the world. The most prominent comment has been from South African cricket player Jonty Rhodes, who thinks that Virat has the ability and caliber that can match the iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

"Kohli is only 22 but he has already shown his potential with the bat. He has shown that he can be a superstar," Rhodes told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of his new range of nutritional supplements under ESN (Evolution Sports Nutrition)."His conversion rate from fifties to hundreds in ODIs is amazing. Once he gets a fifty, he is a difficult batsman to dismiss. With regards to the stats and the number of runs scored, he has shown that he can compete with the records of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar in the long run.

"Kohli is expected to play a big role in India's success in the future. He is a fine cricketer and a fine athlete. He is a complete all-rounder," he added.

Kohli has scored 2,496 runs in 66 ODIs at an average of 45.38 with the help of seven centuries and 16 fifties.

Ranathunga Blames BCCI

Colombo, Srilanka: The former Sri Lankan captain and the cheif of Sri Lanka Cricket, Arjuna Ranathunga slammed on BCCI for its poor management of the team. The captain was speaking in light of the recent defeat of team India in the test series. He said "There is no other foreign effect to be blamed but BCCI for its poor management, the council had not prepared its players for the foreign tour and this brought about the defeat to the country". The Indian Cricket team had lost 0-4 against the England team in the test series held at England.

Arjuna feels that the team was under prepared for the test series and the players were more into ODI's and IPL than the test version of the game. As known to the world, Arjuna Ranathunga is a critic to the IPL seasons and feels that the twenty-20 versions of the game is breaking the attitude of players towards the longer version of the game.

He continued " After the World Cup players did not rest properly and were rushing to participate in the IPL competitions, we had incidents of players postponing the surgeries for the sake of the game and in a final turn it did effect on the upcoming series."

He also reacted on players who opted out of West Indies tour of India. Although the skipper continued to praise Rahul Dravid for his achievements and also added the tag that he was well prepared!

Indian Can make it up in ODI rankings!

Dubai: After getting shattered on the test matches held at England team India is hoping that the ODI tour doesn't go as bad as the test did. Currently the world champions, India is ranked third after Australia and Srilanka, who holds the first and second spot respectively. For attaining this task, the Indian team will have to grab the series by 4-1 or better. Currently the point table is as follows:
  • Australia - 130
  • Srilanka  - 119
  • India       - 117
The recent defeat of Srilanka in the series against Australia has given only 1 point in the ODI rankings and also allows India to reclaim the position. To achieve the number two position, India will have to beat England by 4-1 or whitewash the hosts in the five-match series, starting at Chester-le-Street on September 3.
