Facebook is back in news with their new act of tracking cookies, the recent reports was made by a group in US who did find that the tracking cookies from facebook were still active after the logout of their respective facebook accounts.
Australian technologist Nik Cubrilovic found that when a user logs out of facebook the program doesn't remove the tracking cookies instead, it modifies itself and is still resident on the client machine. Further, these tokens maintain information and unique tokens to identify users.
Facebook has confirmed this flaw and has mentioned that the immediate version of its software has fixed this issue. But the complainants are now moving to the US Federal Trade Commission, to investigate the facebook tracking cookies. The news was reported on Sydney Morning Herald. The complaints also mention that the recent ticker format and timeline feature has further breached privacy by combining biological information in an easily accessible format.
According to the report, the lawsuit that has been filed by Perrin Aikens Davis, of Illinois, seeks class status on behalf of other Facebook users in the US.
Davis seeks unspecified damages and a court order blocking the tracking based on violations of federal laws, including restrictions on wiretapping, as well as computer fraud and abuse statutes.
Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes, however, said in a statement that this 'complaint is without merit' and that they 'will fight it vigorously'.
