Google today celebrates the 90th birthday of Arthur Art Clokey. The tribute is paid to the contribution of Clokey's pioneering work in stop-motion and clay animation.
Clokey had introduced the art of using clay models of objects and animals in television commercials. He is also believed to be the first to develop clay animation techniques and use them in full-length feature films.
His most famous character, Gumby is a pop-culture icon. Clokey and his first wife, Ruth, also created the popular Davey and Goliath series. Clokey is also credited with the clay-animation title sequence for the movie Dr Goldfoot and Bikini Machine.
